Reinforced Traction Bars Installation
With / Without Lower Mount
King6fab’s Unique and one off design for the utilization of traction bars was developed with ease of installation in mind. This setup (with or without lower mount ) will replace your OEM side to cross member without any needed modifications, and will prevent the usage of OEM front to back cross member. If you havent already, you will need to purchase a King6fab Front Turbo Style Cross Member or come up with another solution.
Attachment Brackets Installation
Stock Control arm setups come with the provided mounting brackets, these brackets require two 3/8″ holes drilled through them. It is recommended to remove your control arms to enable drilling (Total: 2) 3/8″ holes into them.
Drilling on Vehicle: The control arm drilling could be done while the control arms are connected to the vehicle, but you will need to raise the vehicle high enough to comfortably get a drill under each arm. If you choose to drill them while on the vehicle, place a 2×4 plank above the arm to prevent drilling thru into the CV Boot, even the smallest CV boot penetration will result in grease constantly spraying on to your wheel.
Each stock control arm will already have two of the three holes required for mounting. One of these holes is directly behind the ball joint, the other is adjacent to the location that needs to be drilled. Use the Attachment bracket as a template for drilling the 3/8″ hole, this can be done by bolting the attachment bracket to the control arm utilizing the 2 existing holes. Hand tighten the bolts and use the bracket as a guide for drilling the third hole.
Spacers Installation:
The attachment brackets come with 1″ Spacers for each of the 2 longer bolts per control arm. These spacers will be slipped in the large opening on the underside of the control arm, place them directly over the mounting holes and slide the bolts thru them with the bracket. These spacers will prevent the stock control arm from crushing in when tightened.
Reinforced Sub-frame Install:
This will require you to remove the stock side to side cross member, if you haven’t already, the stock front to back cross member for the front motor mount also needs to be removed. It is recommended to use the King6fab Front Turbo Cross Member with this setup.
Our traction bars are designed to be used with our Polyurethane Control Arm Bushings and they are required to be installed prior to or during attaching the Reinforced Traction Bars. The 1/2 x 6″ thru bolt provided with the traction bars will not slide through the OEM Rubber control arm bushings sleeve.
Our Polyurethane Control Arm Bushings require you to bore out the mounting holes in the sub frame to 1/2″. This can be done with a drill bit, reamer bit, dremel, or step bit. ( Demonstrated in below picture ) When installing the Polyurethane bushings its recommended to use a synthetic grease, for optimal lubrication use energy suspension’s Formula 5 Prelube (sold separately).
Included with the Reinforced Traction bars is (Total: 2) 6″ 1/2 bolts, these bolts will slide through the adjustment linkage, through the traction bar end, and through the Control arm bushing, linking all 3 together. Tighten the 6″ x 1/2″ bolt is much as you can, then back it off so that it barely spins with a wrench, this will prevent binding.
The Reinforced Sub-frame Part of the setup can be simply pushed up into place like the OEM cross member was, and secure it with the existing hardware from your previous OEM cross member. Every Reinforced traction bar setup we fabricate is designed on an an Actual sub-frame from a quality condition parts car, due to wear/tear, past damage on your vehicle, fitment issues may arise and may require tweaking to fit your application.
Lower Mount Option:
The lower mount aka the 5th mount is a very straight forward installation. On the back of the transmission there is a small trans bracket linking 2 bolts together, remove these 2 bolts and bracket. Attach the lower mount bracket in its place, using the 2 bolts and small trans bracket to secure them loosely. Our Lower mount brackets are designed in aluminum to easy modification, should the holes not line up ideally, they can be filed or dremel’d to the dimension needed. Once the the lower mount is connected to the bushing and transmission, you may tighten all bolts.
