This is a wiring reference guide to use a 1993-1994 Distributor on your 1995-1997 KL V6 Engine.
WHY? There is no benefit to using an earlier version of the distributer. This is simply a "hack modification" an acknowledgement that it can be done.
Fact: The 1993-1994 (KL) V6 Engine ECU uses 2 crank sensors, one crank sensor located at the crank pulley, and the second crank sensor is in the distributor. This does help the engine start faster theoretically. If one of these sensors fails, the engine will still run technically.
In 1995, the Distributor & ECU design changed so that it only uses one crank sensor.
Due to this change, distributors from 1995-1997 (KL) V6 Engines CANNOT be used on 1993-1994 engines because they do not have the second crank sensor in them.
The wiring pigtails are the same, but the wiring orientation and plug placement has changed for the purpose being identifiable and not interchangeable if you were to buy the wrong year by mistake.
However, the older model distributors from 1993-1994 can be used on 1995-1997 engines because the wiring for the internal crank sensor from the 1993-1994 distributor is not used.
The below pictures show how to identify each distributer, the connectors are the same but located differently on the distributor. The 3 pin connector (green arrow) is the only connector where the orientation of the wires changes.
All that is required to use these distributors is to relocate wires on the smaller 3 pin plug, using the below diagram
